Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has finalised tenders for various initiatives including the Intelligent Transport System. These facilities will be taken up under the Nirbhaya fund. The corporation has allotted the tender issuing the letter of acceptance to the consortium of Manipal Group and Amnex Infotechnologies.
The project with the cost of INR 37.3 crores includes fitting two cameras in each of the 5000 BMT buses. And also, the consortium should provide Vehicle Tracking Units (VTUs) and 500 passenger information display boards. Besides, it should also provide a mobile app with safety features for women.
Revathy Ashok, a member of the Bangalore Political Action Committee expressed that people will prefer public transport if they can know the timings of the buses. ‘ The facility to track the buses in realtime will certainly increase the occupancy in public buses.’ expressed Revathy.
The cameras inside the buses will ensure the safety of women passengers and the UTVs will let the passengers track the buses in real-time through a mobile app. At the same time, the display boards will be installed at bus terminals, stops and metro stations. This will help the passengers with information on the estimated time of arrival.
The installation will start next month and the facility will be launched and becomes fully operational from the month of June 2021.
