The markets of Shahjahanabad in Delhi will soon turn plastic-free this week. As part of this initiative, over 21 markets from the Sadar Paharganj zone are in North Delhi will have dedicated kiosks by this week and they will give a jute or cloth bag in return for a KG of plastic. Hence, this will help to accumulated plastic for safe disposal or recycling instead of piling it up on the streets as waste.
Besides, Chandini Chowk and Sadar Bazar will also turn plastic-free by the end of June. The DC of Sadar Paharganj Zone in North Corporation stated that they have tied up two firms to recycle the plastic and turn it into fuel.
In this manner, the agencies which collect the plastic will recycle it into low-density oil, carbon and Liquified Petroleum Gas(LPG). An official explained that the oil can further be recycled into petrol or diesel.
As of now, two tonnes of plastic is being collected from the Sadar Paharganj zone to convert into fuel.
