In what comes as a sigh of relief to the many school teachers across the state, the Telangana Chief Minister KCR has announced that Rs 2000 financial assistance and 25 kilos of rice would be provided through fair-price shops to teachers from private educational institutions.
About 1.5 lakh teachers and staff will benefit from the newly announced scheme. It is known that times have been tough for teachers from private institutions due to the pandemic. With online classes being a norm, all of them are working over-time to ensure that they take classes in time. There is much pressure on teachers to manage home and daily classes.
This announcment has been met with mixed reactions from the concerned parties. Some are of the opinion that 2000 is too meagre an amount and it feels as an insult to the teaching profession. But some also say that it's not easy to distribute any kind of aid in these testing COVID times as many teachers and staff are being laid off and those who are still working aren't getting their salaries. In that scenario KCR's announcement is commendable as the scheme also applies to the non-teaching staff.
