Mayor Vijayalaxmi Gadwal took part in an interacting session with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Mayors from various countries over 'Advancing a carbon-neutral, resilient recovery for cities & nations'. In the meet, she stated that a multi-pronged strategy is deployed to transform Hyderbad into a climate-resilient and low-carbon city.
Vijayalaxmi said that the goal will be achieved with the support of residents, the private sector, stakeholders and development partners. Besides, she also appealed to the United Nations in providing technological and financial support.
Moreover, she said that Hyderabad has 64,000 hectares of urban forests and mentioned that 5 million saplings will be planted to curb down the carbon significantly. And also, Mayor explained that the state is now becoming a destination for electric vehicles and allied components.
Saying that Hyderabad is the fourth most populous city in India, Vijayalaxmi Gadwal reminded that it was recently recognised as the tree city of the world by the FAQ.
