The GHMC Council meeting will be held virtually on the 29th of this month (today) at 10.30 am. This will be Gadwal Vijayalakshmi's first meeting after taking over as mayor. Webex has developed special software for virtual meetings. Each member will be given a user ID and password. Information to this effect has already been provided to council members. This is the first time in the history of the local body that a virtual meeting has been held.
At this meeting, the Council will approve the budget for the financial year 2021-22. Many works that have already been approved by the Standing Committee will be approved. Members have already been informed of these two issues. It seems that there is no possibility of discussion on the issues due to lack of question hour. There is no clarity if all the members will get a chance to speak. Some corporators say that many issues could have been discussed if a direct meeting had been held in accordance with the COVID Rules. They say there is no benefit from a virtual meeting. The meeting will be attended by the mayor, deputy mayor, corporators, ex-officio members, and officials for a total of 240 people.
From the conference hall on the seventh floor of the GHMC head office, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Deputy Mayor Mote Srilatha Reddy, Commissioner Lokesh Kumar, Additional Commissioners, and several other high-ranking officials will attend the meeting. Rajasekhar Reddy, who had earlier won the Lingojiguda by-election as a corporator will take his oath. The then Standing Committee approved a budget of Rs 5,600 crore for the financial year 2021-22 ahead of the Greater Elections. It is then to be approved by the General Body and sent to the Government. The council meeting did not take place for over a year in the wake of the corona. Four months after the formation of the new council, the general body meeting could not be held due to the intensity of the second wave. The budget was included as the first agenda item in the meeting, which is now arranged to be held virtually.
