The pandemic has disrupted the way offices function world over. Of course, the concept of co-working spaces and a hybrid model were being spoken about, but the pandemic made Work from Home (WFH) a reality. So, this is the case with companies operating out of Hyderabad. In fact, for now, the companies are still contemplating a date to call back their employees, but they maintain that some employees will work from home permanently.

Call it the next big thing, but this work culture is here to stay. A survey conducted by Hyderabad Software Enterprises Associations (HYSEA) shows that almost all IT/ITeS companies are opting for the hybrid model when it comes to their employees. The hybrid model is a combination of WFH and Work from Office or WFO. The survey named Future Work Model Survey conducted in July 2021 states that 20 percent of the companies with less than 500 employees say they already have 20 percent of staff back at work.

On the other hand, companies with more than 500 employees have less than 5 percent WFO. Across sizes, 76 percent of all surveyed companies have less than 9 percent WFO population. However, it has to be noted that a majority of all large companies want their employees back at their desks in 2021. A total of 33 percent of all companies want to get their employees back in the office in 2021. Another 41 percent want to do so by next year, while 25 percent are yet not sure about their plans and would like to wait and watch as to how the situation evolves.

One thing is for sure, though. An overwhelming 70 percent of the companies feel that the hybrid model will be the model for the future in terms of both large and small companies globally. As far as Telangana is concerned, while the companies are keen on getting their workforce back at the office, many employees are working from out of the city. Also, there is the possibility of a 3rd wave, employees still not being vaccinated completely, and schools still shut. Some of the companies polled revealed that 33 percent of their employees had been given permanent WFH positions.
