Onions that have been giving tears to the consumers from the last couple of months finally are giving a respite. The prices have started falling in Hyderabad since the last week due to an increase in production in other parts of Telangana and districts of Maharashtra.
The prices have come down due to the increased supply. They are being sold around 20-25 Rupees per kilo in the local markets. Traders at the Bowenpally market say the downward trend of the onion price is likely to continue for the next month and after that, the prices may stabilize for a few months.
Begum Bazaar, Bowenpally, Malakpet, and Osmangunj markets are seeing huge lines of trucks arriving with onion loads. "Maharashtra onions are priced more due to the quality and also transportation charges. We are now getting the produce from Telangana districts especially Mahabubnagar, Medak, and Ranga Reddy and as a result, the prices are less," the traders say.
