We have just completed the first anniversary of the Janta Curfew that lead to a Nationwide Lockdown. Everything has become normal except for the services of the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS). It is been almost one year since the services were stopped and there is no announcement regarding their resumption.
This is even as the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) and TSRTC resumed operations. Before Covid-19, MMTS services had a ridership of around 1.6 lakh passengers per day through 121 services and also the cheapest form of transportation for many. The commuters have shifted to the Metro Rail, only to burn a hole in their pockets.
Common people, especially students, employees, labor, and others were being badly affected due to the non-resumption of the services. Interestingly the local train services have resumed in Mumbai and other places. The officials of the South Central Railways say that they are awaiting the official order from the Railway Board to resume operations. All the maintenance activities like regularly checking the rakes, batteries, brakes, wheel alignment, the functioning of the engine, and other motors are being done to start the services as soon as they receive the orders.
