The Secunderabad Railway Station is the biggest Railway Station in the state with a huge influx of trains and passengers. However, Parking charges in the Railway Station have become a huge problem for the passengers who want to park their vehicles there. Operators are charging Rs 15 per hour.
In addition to this, another 18% GST is also charged. For those who park their vehicle at the railway station in an emergency, the parking charge is more than the train ticket price on some occasions. If the vehicle is parked in the parking lot for more than 24 hours, Rs. 425 must be paid. For an instance, a Sleeper ticket from Secunderabad to Kurnool costs just Rs. 415.
However, the Parking contractor refutes the allegations of loot. "We are charging parking fees as per the rules. If the contract fee is reduced, the charges will be reduced. Motorists feel that parking contractors are robbing them but the railway department should be blamed for that. Our responsibility is to protect the parked vehicle until it is returned," the contractor says.
