The COVID Second Wave is gripping the entire nation. The daily cases have gone over 1.5 Lakh per day. The cases in Telangana are also increasing gradually with GHMC being the epicenter recording highest number of cases in the entire state. The City Hospitals are flooded with patients. The Private Hospitals already have a wait list of minimum 48 hours even in the emergency.
On the other hand, Ramdesvir which is treated as life saving drug for critically-ill COVID-19 patients is in short supply. The drug needs to be taken in five doses. While low production in January and February is the main reason, there is Rampant Black marketing as well. Hetero is currently the largest manufacturer of Remdesivir in India, producing 10.5 lakh vials per month in its Telangana unit.
In black market of Hyderabad, the price is anywhere between Rs 30,000-50,000 while the MRP of the costliest brand is just around 5,500 Rupees. However, the manufacturers assure that the supply will stabilize from 10 days now as as much as ten million doses are going to hit the market. On the other hand, Patients and their relatives hope that the Government will deal the black marketers with an iron fist.
