With the spike of Covid 19 cases all over India and also in the state of Telangana, the city of Hyderabad being a part of it is also facing the heat when it is coming to the admission of patients in private hospitals across the city. In recent developments, the number of people seeking admission has increased exponentially. It has been advised that people with critical and semi-critical cases are to admit themselves in the hospitals and the remaining can seek cure through home quarantine. There are serious allegations on private hospitals that claim that these hospitals have been charging exorbitant rates for patients and are not charging the standardized rates by the government.
Rates as high as 70,000/- per day have been charged by certain hospitals which is very high in comparison to the rates charged by the government. According to the order given by the government, a patient must be charged Rs 4,000 per day for general wards (including isolation), Rs 7,500 for Intensive Care Units (ICU) without the ventilator and Rs 9,000 for ventilator support by private hospitals. Bills as high as 9Lakh have been charged to a patient whose condition has not been critical at all. Many such allegations were brought to the notice of the State Government with an expectation to stop and a genuine rate to charged to people who are really seeking urgent medical assistance.
