Hyderabad has been a world-renowned name as far as the pharma industry is concerned and the pharma hub has been creating many medicines and vaccines over the years. However, during the corona period, Hyderabad’s pharma hub has come into the limelight with the entire world looking for a vaccine from our pharma industries. This has resulted in the need for increased security at the pharma hub. There are fears or anticipation of thefts due to which those in the pharma sector have approached the police to step in. As a consequence, the pharma hub now has constant police patrolling.
Another reason for increased police presence is the safety and security of women employees. Patrolling during nights has been upped to protect their interests. One of the main problems is the lack of last-mile connectivity in pharma hubs and this has also been a cause of concern for employees and industry heads in these pockets. Hyderabad commissioner VC Sajjanar has held meetings with pharma heads from Hyderabad and Sangareddy and has promised to extend the required support. Various issues were discussed and a plan of action was proposed.
The Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) which was set up about a decade ago to coordinate between IT and industry and Cyberabad police will also expand its operations and scope to cover the pharma and healthcare sectors. Heads of over 130 pharma companies from Pashamylaram, Gaddapotharam, Balanagar, Jeedimetla, Turkapally, and Genome Valley put forth the issues they were facing. Initiatives such as women's safety, road security, cyber, and infra security would be considered. SCSC will look into coordinating with stakeholders and make sure that the police are also kept posted on all issues.
