Even as the city is grappling with the COVID situation, the daily life of citizens has been disturbed due to the slow redressal of civic grievances. The complaints by hassled citizens are already piling up in GHMC.
About 14,328 grievances are pending with GHMC with another 8597 lying with senior officials, amounting to a total of 22,925 pending cases between January 1 and April 20. On a normal day, except for laying roads, the grievances need to be addressed within two days. However, the scenario is completely different these days.
While more than 84791 grievances have been filed in the past four months, 22,925 are still pending. The majority of complaints are related to sanitation (25,364), electricity (17,713), veterinary (10,552), and engineering (9,225).
Through the centralized grievance redressal system, the GHMC receives about 500 to 600 cases on a daily basis and if they are not solved within two days, they automatically get forwarded to a senior officer, if the concerned junior officer does not complete the task on time.
The complaints are lodged through the MYGHMC application, Prajavani, GHMC call centers, and various other social media platforms. But the citizens now complain that most of them are closed without being attended to.
When one sends in a grievance, the civic body provides the name and mobile number of the officer who will work on the matter. This apart, third-party verification has to be done to ensure redressal. From its side, GHMC feels it has resolved 70,463 complaints. However, more than 50 percent of the cases haven’t been resolved.
