The urban lake of Hyderabad, Malkam Cheruvu, located in Raidurgam after a long wait gets a facelift and is getting ready to be inaugurated. Durgam Cheruvu's contaminated water will enter into Malkam Cheruvu directly now only after proper treatment. Walk-path, beautification work, and greenery have been added to attract the citizens. Very soon boating provision along with other recreational establishments will also come in and around the Malkam Cheruvu.
Construction works fencing of the lake and entrance are done. The project has a deadline till May which has cost Rs 25 crore for beautification and restoration works, but officials say that the works might be completed by April end itself. Nagender, Assistant Engineer, GHMC, speaking about the development of Malkam Cheruvu, says that the lake is one of the prestigious projects and they are focusing to develop it on a huge scale. Their primary objective is to protect the lake from contamination. Desilting works of the lake bed are undertaken with 25 tanks, and they are trying to divert the sewerage pipelines linked to the lake, in terms of saving the lake. He also adds that the restoration of inlets is mandatory to protect the lake. They are also focusing on the formation of wetland ponds for the natural treatment of inlet water. In the next three months removal of weed, fencing of the lake, and landscaping around the lake will begin.
"Due to internal conflicts in 2017, the construction works were delayed in the beginning, but now the works are in full swing. The Malkam Cheruvu development will provide refreshment to Hyderabadis especially those residing in Gachibowli, Cyberabad, and other nearby areas. By the end of this summer, they can enjoy the pleasant climate and have fresh air at the lake.
