The Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) at Gachibowli is one of the hospitals designated by the state government for total covid care. In a shocking revelation, the TIMS had recently banned any outside food from the patient's family members and friends. With that said, the ban had seen patients not being served food for as long as 36 hours, and many patients who have pre-medical conditions like diabetes and other deficiencies have now become critical. One such patient who wasn't served dinner starved the whole night, and with the ban of outside food going on, the patient succumbed to starvation the following day.
The patients admitted at this facility are highly critical due to which high doses of steroids are given, which increases their hunger and thirst. The management at the hospital aware of this fact. This phase of starvation is due to the hospitals catering management being understaffed and the cooks and other workers falling prey to the virus themselves.
The TIMS reports directly to the state government and has amplified the situation, and also, the displeasure of the people is noticed by the government. The reason for banning food from family members in the first place was because the management was not able to address the grievances of the family members of the hospital being so poorly maintained. The hospital management is planning to hire a new catering contractor to solve this issue. Also, till the problem is solved, the administration is considering lifting the ban on outside food so that patients don't die just because of starvation.
