There is a massive shortage in the supply of vaccines all over the country, even as the Central Government has started the registration process for the vaccination of those between the ages 18 and 45. Due to the shortage of vaccines in the country, the Telangana State government has said that its priority is to complete the second dose vaccination of 45.
Nearly 41 lakh people in the state are yet to get their second dose of the vaccine, and the state currently has a stock of 90,000 vaccine doses. Vaccine supply to private hospitals has been stopped due to the shortage of vaccine doses. Also, it won't be easy to administer the first dose of the vaccine until the central government supplies new doses to the state government.
Over 48 Lakh people have been administered the vaccine so far, of which only over six lakh people have been administered with the second dose. Close to 42 lakh people have been administered the Covidshield vaccine, while over six lakh people have received Covaxin. Maximum number of doses have been administered in the GHMC, with around 6.3 lakh people being vaccinated, of which 1.3 Lakh were administered with the covaxin dose. On the other hand, private hospitals are currently clueless about administering vaccines to people, at least until they get the vaccine doses from the manufacturers. In the meantime, experts say that there is no need for a person to get both the vaccine doses from the same spot and can get them from two different locations.
