Folks who have tested positive for COVID can't step out of their houses to purchase groceries, other necessities, or even medicines. On top of that, with the increasing number of cases, there's also an increase in the need for people who can bring the required items for COVID patients. Across the city, several youngsters have risen up to the challenging occasion and Rohith Vakrala, from the NGO Council for Transforming India, is one such person.
Rohith started off by delivering in various localities in Kompally, Alwal, Bolarum, and Suchitra to many people, especially the elder ones, who tested COVID positive. Rohith, along with his friends Vinay, Sriharshitha, Amruth, Vinay, and Vivek, formed (THEDC) The Hyderabad Essentials Delivery Collective, and across the city, they are extending their services.
According to Rohith, when they receive a request either on their social media handles or on their phone, their network of volunteers get into action and buy the necessities, medicines, and groceries and deliver it to the needy ones. The delivery is done free of cost, and they only take the cost price of whatever they want.
Rohith's team consists of 75 volunteers who deliver essentials in a contactless manner across Hyderabad, and he says in the last few days, they have received hundreds of calls, specifically from elderly NRIs who are in home isolation due to COVID. His team also delivers food from restaurants or other places to make sure they don't have to make efforts to cook.
Their team, apart from delivering necessities, is also handling other COVID related requirements like connecting doctors, arranging beds in hospitals, etc.
