The Covid19 pandemic has been brutal on people from all walks of life. The present-day scenario sees at least 10% of the staff of many significant and essential service providers being affected by this deadly virus. The recent flurry of cases is seen among delivery boys and suppliers of LPG cylinder in the GHMC area.
The LPG delivery to homes sees a foreseen backlog of deliveries as many delivery guys and suppliers at central residential locations fall prey to the virus and even succumb to it. The pending deliveries at certain areas have gone as high as ten days as there isn't enough replacement for the guys sick due to the virus. Moreover, the other delivery guys who were in close contact are fearing the virus might attack them and are not coming to work. The times have been tough for these delivery guys and suppliers as more than five suppliers have died since the start of the second wave. The LPG delivery is marked under essential services throughout any lockdown phase, but the delivery guys are not given the importance of a frontline worker. The Federation of LPG Distributors of India exclaimed that he had already urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to treat these delivery boys and cover their vaccination under the frontline worker category.
The president of LPG distributors in Telangana is quite disturbed by the number of suppliers and delivery boys that have died while fighting the pandemic. He expressed his displeasure about the health minister of the state, Dr Eatala Rajendra, agreeing to cover LPG delivery boys and suppliers under the essential services vaccination drive but neglecting their category of workers and starting phase 1 of the vaccination drive for only 45 years and older. He also expressed his displeasure that the LPG boys would have to wait longer as most of the delivery guys across the state are young and under 30. The GHMC LPG association president has urged people to inform the delivery guys about their situation regarding the virus so that these boys can take necessary precautions.
