In what can be seen as some relief to the patients and families of those infected with the deadly coronavirus, the Telangana government has finally decided to intervene in the operations and, most importantly, the billing of private hospitals.
The Telangana state government cancelled the license of a private hospital in Hi-Tech city and gave notices to three other hospitals, following strict instructions from the High Court. Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Dr G Srinivasa Rao, has announced that action will be taken against private hospitals that overcharge and fleece the patients of money during these critical times.
A WhatsApp number has also been given out for kith and kin of patients to register their complaints regarding hospitals that are including unnecessary monies in the bills. Three hospitals in Secunderabad, Nagole and Basheerbagh have been issued show-cause notices for surplus billing and overcharging.
The director has also appealed to private hospitals to consider the financial background of patients and before charging exorbitant rates. He shared that they have received about 26 complaints so far on the WhatsApp number. One can reach out to the authorities at WhatsApp number – 9154170960.
