On Wednesday, the GHMC cleared encroachments near Khali Kamaan, one of the four Kamaans (arches) around Charminar in the city. Char Kamaan, Machli Kaman, Sher-e-Batil Kamanand and Kali Kamaan are the four gateways to the Charminar.
The four imposing kamaans were once an inalienable part of the Charminar heritage complex. Culture and heritage lovers have been informing the authorities about the encroachments for quite some time now.
Arvind Kumar, Chief Secretary, Municipal Administration, and Urban Development, who has been concentrating on heritage restoration recently, finally shifted focus on this issue. He got the encroachments cleared and also informed about the latest development in his Twitter account.
Currently, the encroachments are cleared, and restoration works will begin in a day or two. "Encroachments around Khaali kamaan (one of the char kamaans) being removed & the structure being restored to original by @GHMCOnline.. the third pic is how it will be after restoration (sic)," Arvind Kumar tweeted. An artistic impression of the arch, post-restoration was also tweeted by MA&UD principal secretary.
