Drug smuggling this year has not quite been the booming business that it usually is. Thanks to the pandemic lockdowns and police officers and their extra vigilance and busts made at state or city borders. The raids have mostly been of marijuana or weed oil.
The biggest raid at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport will go down as one of the closest smuggles in 2021. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has made one of the biggest raids in a long time. They busted two international travellers from Uganda and Zambia who travelled to Hyderabad and tried to smuggle nearly 12 kg of Heroin worth 70 crores. These ladies arrived at Hyderabad via Johannesburg and Doha. DRI intercepted the two women on two different dates. The first lady came to Hyderabad last week and went to the airport to claim missing baggage on Saturday 5th June.
DRI thoroughly checked the bag, and a concealed spot was found where the lady stocked up a vast amount of powder. The powder was tested for Heroin. A similar bust was made in the early hours of Sunday when another lady arrived at the airport from Zambia via Johannesburg and Doha. This lady's bottom end of the baggage had an entire pipe roll that had an off-white powder.
The DRI intercepted this luggage, found the powder to be Heroin, and found this lady's connection to the lady who DRI blocked for the same few days ago. The drugs under their possession are seized, and these ladies were arrested under NDPS Act 1985. A further investigation and the men behind coordinating this racket from the city will be known in the coming days.
