Due to the negligence of workers hired on contract to take up Nala work for the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) ended up being fatal for an 8-year-old boy. The boy, now recognised as Anand Sai, fell into the open Nala while playing with his friends. He slipped and fell into the Nala, and neither his friends nor the locals could rescue him as they could not swim. The Nala was flowing in front of Sai's house, and the work was given to a contractor.
However, neither the contractor nor the workers failed to put warning signs near the open Nala, and this led to the unfortunate incident. Once the police were informed, they rushed to the spot by around 10.30. The boy fell into the Nala around 9.34 am. However, the police swimmers could not find the boy.
Later, the fire department was called in along with GHMC personnel, and an expert diver called Shiva fished out the body of Sai. The Nala contractor Ramu was booked under section 304 2 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC. Any officer found to be irresponsible will also be booked eventually, the police informed the media.
