Road cutting permits have been stopped in the Greater Hyderabad limits. GHMC has decided to suspend the road-digging works till October 31 due to the monsoon season. Various private companies, as well as government agencies such as electricity, water board, and BSNL, are digging roads for underground cables, for laying cables and laying pipelines etc.
Since January, the government and private companies have received approvals from GHMC for digging roads of about 54 km of roads for various infrastructure works. Many companies have taken advantage of lockdown time and finished complex works. Now with the monsoons arriving, GHMC clarified that road cuttings will not be allowed for the new and old projects.
Also, the laying of new roads and road repairs are also put on hold. Meanwhile, with the floods last year, the GHMC is worried about what is in store for the season. Last year has been a nightmare with roads giving up and flood water inundating several low-lying areas. Commuters are hoping for better roads and better-preparedness from the Corporation for the upcoming rainy season.
