Tuesday is the first day of Mrigashira Karthi. According to Hindu Calendar, Mrigashira Karthi marks the onset of the monsoon season. It is believed that eating fish on Mrigasira Karthi cures or eases breathing disorders. Bathini Brothers also distribute their famous Fish Prasadam on this very day every year.
People from across the country come to take this Prasadam which is believed to be a cure for Asthama. The Fish Prasadam distribution has been stopped for two years now due to the Pandemic. Meanwhile, people have thronged the major fish markets in the twin cities ignoring the COVID second wave threat.
Besides the fish markets, there are vendors selling different varieties of fish even in the bylanes of colonies everywhere in the city. There are serpentine queues at every vendor with social distancing seen nowhere and people wearing their masks improperly. Also, people are seen shouting at the pitch of their voice to get the attention of the vendors for their prized catch.
