Recently, #OUlogo trended as many people took to Twitter and demanded that the original logo of Osmania University be restored. Also, a petition was started by Zuhair Madani on change.org that has so far garnered over 9800 signatories.
The original logo of the university had both Urdu and Arabic inscriptions. The top part of the logo had the turra or the crown of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last and seventh Nizam and founder of Osmania University.
The crown was surrounded by wandering beams of light and the words ‘Noorun Ala Noor’, which was Arabic. Over a period of time, the inscriptions were changed to Telugu and Hindi. After the formation of Telangana, the Telangana government replaced the language and removed the crown of Nizam from the logo.
Now, older alumni and non-minority alumni too are requesting that the original logo be restored as it showed a communal mindset.
