Contractors are not coming forward to submit bids for new tenders called by the GHMC as the bills are not being cleared even after months of completion of works. With the onset of the monsoon season, GHMC authorities had to call tenders five times for urgent works such as dredging of Nalas and repair of lakes, etc. Authorities are re-calling for tenders as contractors have not come forward.
Currently, 238 tenders have been called and most of them were recalled. In the Begum Bazar division, tenders were called out 5 times to set up iron girders at three places but not a single contractor came forward. With this, tenders have been called for the sixth time. A tender has been issued for the fifth time for the construction of a community hall in West Maredupally.
The Secunderabad zone has the highest number of recall tenders in the Greater area. Dredging the Nalas which was to be completed before the monsoon, is still incomplete. Although tenders were filed for these works 2 months ago, the contractors showed no interest. In many areas, including Banjara Hills, Tolichowki, and Himayathnagar, a similar situation exists.
There are up to 1500 contractors in the Greater Range. 400 people are actively working. GHMC did not even pay the bills for the work done a year ago. Officials did not even clear the bills for the road works done under PPM (Periodic Preventive Maintenance) Works. Contractors say they can not function if the bills are not cleared. Along with these, there are bills worth 1000 Crore pending in regular works as well.
