The southwest monsoon spreads across the state very early in the month of June, bringing good rains. But in the capital city of Hyderabad, 16 percent less rainfall was recorded than last year, according to the Hyderabad Meteorological Department. In June, 56 percent of rainfall was recorded in Telangana.
"More than normal rainfall was recorded across the state. We will have to see how the rains will be like in July. There is 133.2 mm in Hyderabad from the beginning of June till the 29th of this month. Hyderabad recorded a high of 34.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. High temperatures are likely to continue for one more week," says Hyderabad Meteorological Department Director Dr. K Nagaratna.
Interestingly, the monsoons arrived early than last year but still, Hyderabad recorded deficit rainfall. Hyderabad has seen record rainfall the last year. In the month of November, there is a rainfall which is the highest in more than 100 years of history. The city's infrastructure crumbled. The GHMC claims to be better prepared for this monsoon season even as the on-ground situation looks different.
