In March last year, Telangana Government has recruited 1,640 nurses on outsourcing. They have served thousands of patients in the Corona First Wave across the districts. Although their one-year, contract term ended in March this year, they were continued with the Second Wave Effect. They were promised another one-year extension.
The nurses also worked hard in the second wave but are now being fired from jobs as the corona declines. The superintendents of various dispensaries, who received government orders on Monday night, sent back the nurses who came on duty on Tuesday. They were informed that we are being fired as per the DME order.
The nurses who risked their lives working in the pandemic have expressed anguish about where they would go if they were laid off overnight. Many nurses are protesting at the Medical Education office in Koti. The Government has deployed police to handle them. While the government is trying to save some bucks, the government may find it tough to recruit staff if the third wave comes.
