Earlier this week, we have carried an article saying Pragati Bhavan has defaulted on paying Property Tax to the GHMC, but that is not the only case. The state government owes a whopping 678.64 Crore Rupees to the corporation. The total due is 714 Crore and out of which, only 35.36 Crore has been cleared.
Pragati Bhavan, the Chief Minister's Official Residence is due 25,49,914 towards the Property Tax from 2018-19 to 2020-21. The demolished secretariat alone owes over 100 Crore property tax. The prestigious D Block alone defaults to the tune of 42 Crore. Not a single penny has been paid ever since the formation of Telangana state (2014-15).
The Property Tax is to the tune of 102 Crore per annum for around 2,500 government buildings in the GHMC limits but the government is only allocating less than 32 Crore per annum in the budget. So, the story of default is going to be endless and the state government which should be a model to the citizens is intentionally doing it.
"One fine day, the payments will be made by books adjustments," a source in the government told us.
