GHMC is planning to undertake 17 more projects in Greater as part of the second phase of SRDP (Strategic Road Development Program). Under bridges and the road over bridges, bridges will be constructed at major junctions in Secunderabad, Khairatabad, and Charminar zones to curb the traffic problem. GHMC will undertake these projects at the cost of Rs 1230 crore.
GHMC officials have sought permission from the government and complete the tender process. The corporation has focused mainly on the construction of underbridges. Underbridges are expected to be built as soon as possible to address the traffic congestion problem at a low cost. So far, 20 projects have been made available as part of the SRDP first phase. Of these, 8 are underpass structures.
Fifteen underbridges will be constructed in the second phase as well. There are plans to build a road overbridge if an underbridge is not possible. Officials say the completion of the project will cause traffic problems in many places. Construction of projects will be undertaken in 10 areas within the Secunderabad zone at Rs 635 crore. The projects will be undertaken in two areas at the cost of Rs 250 crore in the Kukatpally zone, two in the Charminar zone at Rs 195 crore, and two in the Khairatabad zone at the cost of Rs 150 crore. GHMC will spend a total of Rs 1230 crore on 17 such projects.
Development work is underway at major junctions with a total of Rs 23,500 crore as part of the SRDP. Twenty works have already been completed in the first phase, and some work has not yet begun. A few more are under construction. GHMC is preparing to start work on 17 projects as part of the second phase, putting aside the pending works in the first phase.
