On Sunday, the ambiance at the historic Golconda Fort turned festive as hordes of devotees thronged the temple of Jagadamba to offer prayers. Like previous years, Joginis, Potharajus, and Shiva Shaktis stole the show with their traditional style and dance to folk and devotional songs to mark the annual festival.
Several women, amidst fanfare, offered Bonam to the goddess. At several places, ladies were seen preparing Bonam while some of them chanting bhajans as they headed towards the temple in religious groups.
Many devotees were ecstatic that the State government had allowed celebrations this year. Elaborate arrangements were made, which included traffic, security, management, and spraying of sanitizers. Several people visited the legendary Ujjaini Mahankali temple in Secunderabad, too, and not just the Golconda fort on this occasion, thanks to Lashkar Bonalu that will be held on 25-26 July at the temple. A huge turnout on the occasion of Bonalu is expected next Sunday, and thus many decided to visit the temple this week itself. Near the temple, Serpentine queues were seen, and people started thronging the temple early in the morning before sunrise.
