Mosquitoes are a menace for the residents of the old city and those living close to water bodies like ponds, lakes, and near Musi River. These mosquitoes and their problems multiply and intensify issues post-summer and trouble residents throughout the year.
Unfortunately, the door-to-door pest control hasn't worked out for GHMC to date. To overcome this issue of growing mosquitoes and reduce the risk of diseases that come with it, GHMC has employed a new method of pest control. Two advanced mosquito-killing machines have been installed near the banks of River Musi at Chaderghat.
These machines will capture all the mosquitoes and pests within a 1 acre of radius. Post collection of these insects, the officials will study the various types of mosquitoes and their diseases. The municipal body will soon step up measures to reduce mosquito troubles in the rest of the city by increasing the number of mosquito trap machines and drones which will spray Pyrosin oil to get rid of mosquitoes.
The entire program of reducing mosquito troubles is a 100-day plan by GHMC. It will intensify anti larval activities in water bodies, and smaller water bodies will be disinfected within these 100 days. Apart from common locations, GHMC will focus and conduct drive-in sessions at schools and colleges that have closed for a long, which could be a breeding ground for many dangerous mosquitoes. In addition, emptying stagnant water, which is a common practice, will continue as a part of the mass elimination drive.
