The Road Transport Authority (RTA) near the airport had the busiest Independence Day as they stopped 15 of the most famous and expensive vehicles in the city for tax defraud as these vehicles were zooming near the long road of RGIA. The RTA set up a checkpoint near the airport to inspect these high-end cars on Sunday.
A team of 40 members from the RTA and Papa Rao, Deputy Transport Commissioner, set up roadblocks and stopped them. The commissioner and his team were tracking these guys for six months, and 11 out of the 15 luxury cars that were stopped had not paid taxes, BMW I series, Mercedes Benz AMG's, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini's, Ferrari, Maserati, and many more high-end cars owned by the rich and famous were caught by the RTA. These cars cost between 5-10 crore and have customized Teflon done.
While these owners were ready to pay the tax and the penalty, they returned their vehicles after submitting an affidavit. However, knowing fully well that the seized number of cars on Sunday is just a fraction of luxury cars evading taxes, the RTA has written to the central government on this issue.
These cars usually travel in groups of 5-10 and have the videos of their drive shot for social media handles. The RTA's team is planning to set up few more checkpoints near the vicinity of these cars to locate more cars that have evaded tax fraud.
