As of August 16th, Telangana has vaccinated 43.9% of its adult population at least with a Single dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Director of Public Health, Srinivasa Rao announced that almost 100% of the eligible population is vaccinated at least with one dose. Meanwhile, in order to boost immunity, a third dose of the vaccine is likely to be given to the vulnerable population in Telangana and across the country.
Recently, the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) gave its nod for the use of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Covid vaccines as an additional dose on certain immunocompromised individuals. It is said that Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) is also contemplating issuing a similar directive very soon.
Telangana Government is reportedly collecting the data regarding these sections and is planning to administer the jab as and when ICMR allows. "Telangana Government is keen on moving towards herd immunity. We are not in favor of any further disruptions and Lockdowns. Vaccinating as many people is the only way forward for herd immunity. So, all arrangements are being made for a Booster dose for vulnerable sections as and when ICMR allows," a source in the Health Department reveals.
