Hyderabad has been known for rash drivers, and those who drive on the ORR road are particularly brash and rash while on the wheel. Challans are issued to such vehicles, and one vehicle that has been under the radar of the traffic police is a Volkswagen Jetta. The traffic police say thanks to many violations; the owner is supposed to pay Rs 1 lakh as challans.
Most of the challans were issued for overspeeding and dangerous driving. In fact, some challans have been pending since May 2018.
The above-mentioned vehicle bearing the number AP28CJ2688 belongs to one T Subba Reddy and has 100 challans with a penalty amount of Rs 1.01 lakh. It has been spotted on various occasions on ORR road under the policy limits of Shamshabad and Vanasthalipuram.
Usually, the traffic police charge Rs 1035 per challan. And motorists who have more than three challans are sent legal notices. If they default, there is a possibility of landing in jail. Knowing this, some motorists come to the police stations and pay challans to avoid being jailed.
Additional commissioner of police (traffic) says that their call center calls around 500 people daily who have defaulted challans.
