The situation in many parts of the city is deplorable due to incessant rains for the past few days. Owing to the disruption of vital services, the state government has declared two days as holidays to make sure people in greater Hyderabad stay safe and secure. Citizens will get to stay home on Wednesday and Thursday.
Arvind Kumar, secretary, municipal administration made the announcement stating that all private institutions, offices, and non-essential services within Outer Ring Road (ORR), with work from home advice. Given that many parts of the city continue to be waterlogged and without electricity, authorities have declared a holiday for online classes for both schools and colleges. MAUD minister KT Rama Rao and animal husbandry minister T Srinivas Yadav held an emergency meeting to have an overview of the situation and to decide on the measures that need to be taken.
Director-General of Police M Mahender Reddy also issued directives asking people to stay indoors. They also requested people to reach out to the police on #Dial 100 & DRF teams on 040 29555500 for any complaints or emergency situations.Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar tweeted saying that the entire machinery was working towards reducing the inconvenience.
He also noted that people in certain areas like Jahanuma were seen walking around in the water and pointed out that citizens should refrain from such acts.Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundarajan tweeted, “Apart from Govt every one of us should take part to help & share people suffering whatever way possible interacting with Telangana Redcross volunteers today 2 appreciate their work & motivate them further.”
