The 10-day Ganesh festival starts today, and Hyderabad is known for huge celebrations during this time. One of the main attractions during the time happens to be the Khairatabad Ganesh. This year, the Ganesh idol in Khairtabad happens to be that of Panchamukha Rudra Ganapati.
There was a time when the Ganesh idol in Khairatabad used to be the tallest idol in the city, and people would come from all corners to see the idol. Of course, people still throng the pandal to have a darshan of the elephant god, but the idol size is much shorter these days due to traffic guidelines.
This year too, Khairatabad Ganesh happens to be a major attraction for devotees as people were not allowed last year due to the COVID surge. So, the organizers of the Ganesh pandal are expecting huge crowds this year. To manage crowds and to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the city, the traffic police have issued guidelines for the period.
The police have made announcements that people coming for the darshan must either come by Metro or MMTS. During the 10 days, private vehicles will not be allowed in the vicinity. However, senior citizens can park their vehicles near Mint Compound and then proceed for the darshan.
Huge barricades have been erected in Khairatabad to handle the situation, and only devotees seeking darshan are being allowed on the main roads in the area.
