On August 30, the state government and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority had made the day a traffic-free Sunday. On September 12, 2021, the HMDA organized ‘Sunday Funday’ on Tank Bund for the first time. Buoyed by the response received from the public regarding traffic-free Sunday, the state MA & UD minister KT Rama Rao had suggested that HMDA organize a fun-filled day with lots of activities, music, and food. Accordingly, HMDA sourced various artists who would be involved in rather interesting activities throughout the day.
Already, HMDA had taken up the beautification drive to make Tank Bund visually appealing by putting up lampposts, benches, and lighting. Now, the government wants to take it one step further and make Tank Bund a place for leisure and fun, especially during the evenings.
The HDMA arranged spacious footpaths, seating arrangements, decorative lighting, and greenery. Various art and cultural activities were organized, including laser shows, food stalls, entertainment options for children, and more.
Coveted Ceremonial Bagpiper Band of the Indian Army, AOC Secunderabad, played live as a part of day-long celebrations. This was followed by performances by local artists. Also participating were traditional folk artists. Professional clowns, jugglers, cyclists, etc., showcased their talent to assembled people. A laser show was also organized to entertain the audience.
People also got to shop from stalls put by artisans from Shilparamam and other handicraft stores by Telangana Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (TSCO). The urban forestry wing also distributed saplings to mark the occasion. Apart from Live music, there were a whole lot of food stalls, and food trucks were parked alongside Tank Bund.HMDA also made arrangements for mobile toilet facilities and ambulances in case of emergencies. The immersion of Ganesh idols was stopped till 10 pm on Tank Bund, though it continued on NTR Marg and PVNR Marg.
