The iconic Paigah Palace, which currently hosts the US Consulate, will soon be sold by the Government or converted into a hotel like The Falaknama Palace. The 121-year-old palace, an iconic building of the Nizam era that ruled Hyderabad, is the second to get converted into a hotel.
The construction of the American Consulate's residence at Gachibowli will finish by April 2021. After that, the Government will inspect the venue and either decide about leasing it or selling it permanently to a hotel group to set up their hotel. The early 20th Century of this palace saw the Paigah family and their younger generations live while they ruled Hyderabad. However, post Independence and the fading away of the Nizam rule saw this palace become a club for royals to gather while a small portion remained a residence.
The US Consulate General has lived in this venue ever since the US started its visa and embassy services in Hyderabad in 2008. Currently, this office and residence provides Visa and is the embassy for Americans in AP, Telangana, and Orissa. The earlier plan of the state government was to convert this palace into a Minister's office after acquiring it from Municipal Administration and Urban Development(MAUD) but couldn't proceed as other ministers were not in favor of it.
