It is known to our readers that the Telangana High Court has refused to allow the immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster Of Paris in Hussainsagar. The Government is likely to approach the Supreme Court but there is no chance of getting a favorable judgment for obvious reasons.
GHMC has started making alternate arrangements for the immersion in Baby Pond but the corporation has found itself in a tight spot with regard to immersion of the mammoth Ganesh idol from Khairatabad. It is always a challenge to transport the idol to the nearest Hussainsagar.
Moreover, the baby pond created near the Sanjeevaiah Park on the Necklace Road is only 15 to 20 feet in depth but the idol is 60 feet in width. The idol wouldn’t be drowned completely in the proper lake which would hurt the sentiments of devotees if it happens. There is an escape clause in the High Court order as it applies only to the lakes within HMDA limits.
It does not apply to the lakes outside the city but transporting the idol that long will be a herculean task. The procession will be a challenge in all routes of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, to prevent collision of the idol with the stations. Considering all these issues, the organizers have decided to erect an Eco-friendly Ganesh idol from next year and it would be immersed at the same spot where it is erected.
