The World Rhinoceros Day was quite eventful at the Nehru Zoological Park as zoo officials conducted this celebration in association with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd(IOC). Hyderabad. The Indian Oil officials visiting the zoo for this event also decided to adopt a Rhinoceros in the zoo.
The zoo currently houses four one-horn rhinoceros named Suraj, Saraswati, Sai Vijay, and Nanda. With three males and one female rhinoceros, Nanda is a 4-month-old calf and one of the zoo's youngest animals. IOC's celebration program and the visit to the zoo saw its Executive Director for Telangana & Andhra Pradesh RSS. Rao, C.G.M., HR, SK. Upadhayay, GM B. Anand Reddy, Chief Manager V. Ravi Shanker, and D.G.M., Ramesh Babu, preside over the event and adopt a rhinoceros.
The executive director praised the Curator VVL Subhadra Devi, Deputy Curator, A. Nagamani, for maintaining these rhinos and conserving them and all the other animals in the zoo, for taking extra care of them and helping them survive.
The curator also took a moment to explain the importance of the day and how this event was made so fruitful by the presence of IOC's members and their decision to adopt a rhinoceros. The curator explained how their adoption had built a partnership of a better world with the zoo. This adoption by IOC is not their first as they have adopted few more animals in such exclusive events and are joined by SBI Hyderabad, Nasr School, Hyderabad Public School, and Canara Bank in adopting animals taking care of them, and helping them survive.
