The city might have seen and heard about a million doctors and how they have done things differently and saved a life or lives of patients throughout their career and are still doing it and being remembered for good. One such doctor is Dr. Jnanesh Thakker, from Yashoda Hospital, Somajiguda, who has achieved a rare milestone of 500 heart and lung transplants worldwide in his career span and was recently featured by the International Registry of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
The doctor is also the first surgeon to conduct a Lung Transplantation on a patient in Mumbai who was the first Indian to get a transplant done in 2012. The doctor, already a cardiothoracic expert, moved to the United States for a few years. He trained and worked at some of the most advanced hospitals and built his specialization of Heart and lung transplantation specialization. He then grew in experience when he started performing surgeries in Europe, especially in Austria. The doctor's surgery density has been phenomenal, which got him featured at Temple University's magazine CAPSULE for completing over 70 surgeries in 3 months.
Apart from this, the USA has felicitated Dr. Thakker time and time, recognized his expertise in transplants, included his methods in many books and journals, and allowed him to share his knowledge with students in the medical field. The doctor recently relocated to India and is now working extensively at Yashoda Hospital and is doing his best to encourage heart and lung transplantation as safe practice in India, which is still considered life-taking and has very little awareness compared to many countries.
