IT Major - Infosys Pocharam Branch has been slapped with a fine of Rs 50,000 and served a show-cause notice for allegedly collecting parking fees from its own employees. Pocharam Municipality has taken this action for the company charging as much as Rs 500 per car and Rs 250 to Rs 300 for bikes and scooters from their employees.
City-based activist Vijay Gopal has already filed a petition in the High Court against the company on the same issue. Infosys had claimed it was collecting the parking charges to encourage its employees to use public transport. However, the municipality has served the notice since Parking within office buildings is free under the city’s municipal by-laws.
The Municipality says the company is in violation of section 24 (promoters or the owners of apartments shall not sell or lease out or misuse any common areas and facilities) of the Telangana State Apartment Act, 1987 besides relevant sections of the Telangana State Municipality Act, 2019. There is a stark criticism of the IT major on social media for this 'cheap' act.
