GHMC Property tax collections got reduced this year. It has been declining every month since April. 372 crore in April, Rs. 169 crores in May, Rs. 78 crores in June, Rs. 74 crores in July, Rs. 79 crores in August, and Rs. 62 crore in September. Only Rs 95 lakh was received till the 4th of this month. If this is the case, GHMC is unlikely to reach the target on tax collection.
This was due to the assignment of other tasks to the bill collectors who collect taxes. They were deployed for the Corona Vaccination drive and Bathukamma Sarees distribution. To increase tax collections during Corona, GHMC introduced one-time settlements and early bird offers last year. As a result, the corporation has got 1000 Crore revenue.
With this, the corporation is all set to launch the 'One Time Settlement' scheme, which offers a 90 percent interest rebate on property tax arrears. Most of the property tax arrears in Greater Hyderabad are pending. Due to the corona last year, the government provided a 90 percent interest rebate on old arrears until March 2020. For the first time, a one-time settlement scheme was introduced. It is learned that this time too the authorities have asked the government to implement the OTS once again as the property tax collections were reduced. It is learned that this was also discussed in a recent meeting with Minister KTR. The OTS scheme is likely to come into effect by the end of this month or next month.
