Hyderabad
Heavy rains lashed the city which made half of Hyderabad submerged in water. The substandard work done by the Municipal Corporation came under severe criticism from all quarters. People complained that floods are not new to the city but for the past few years, the public is suffering immensely due to the lack of proper planning by the concerned authorities.
Especially in several areas of the Old City, the water level ranged from ankle to knee level. These areas include Mecca colony, Nawab Sahib Kunta, Kalapathar, Murni chowk, Aliabad, Kishanbagh, Doodh Baoli, Sultanshahi, Dabirpura, Kandikal Gate, Sadat Nagar, Chatrinaka, and other nearby areas. Water entered houses in many areas of Yakutpura, Bahadurpura, and Charminar. Residents said that earlier these areas were not flooded, but for the past few years, every heavy rain was followed by heavy floods.
This exposed the substandard work done by the civic body. All the major drains were overflowing including the stormwater drains that turned into sewer systems. The drains were filled with filthy water coming out of the manholes. According to Mohammed Ahmed, TDP Greater Hyderabad Minority Cell Vice-Chairman criticized the government's negligence by saying that, drains and manholes were seen overflowing during every session of heavy rains.
