The State Pollution Control Board (PCB) said in a report that the oxygen level in the Hussain Sagar water in the heart of the city has improved. The water quality of the Hussainsagar waters is tested before and after Ganesh immersion.
However, due to the recent heavy rains, all the waste in the Sagar has gone down. Tests were conducted in six areas in three phases from Vinayaka Chaviti to the completion of immersion. PCB officials said that the level of dissolved oxygen (oxygen level in the water) and the total amount of dissolved solids (TDS) were found to be normal.
According to the Supreme Court's directive, this year is going to be the last year for immersion of PoP idols in Hussain Sagar. The Supreme Court gave the permission only after the state government gave an assurance in a sworn affidavit. Eco-friendly idols will be encouraged and baby ponds will be created for immersion. Even the giant Khairatabad Ganesha will be eco-friendly next year and will be immersed at the same place it was erected.
