Hyderabad
No matter how many measures are taken, road accidents in Hyderabad are not coming under control. Traffic police officials have been recommending to Transport Department to revoke the licenses of violators, noting that accidents are increasing day by day with traffic violations such as not wearing a helmet, wrong route, over speed, drunken driving, and signal jumping.
In the wake of this, about 4030 licenses have been suspended in the Greater Hyderabad area over a period of 10 months this year. Another 2000-2200 people are reported to have been issued show-cause notices for violations. In 2018, up to 2200 licenses were suspended under the three commissionerates.
By 2021, it has doubled which speaks about the severity of the situation. A total of 2294 licenses have been suspended in Cyberabad this year. About 70-75 percent of them are youths, transport officials said. The license suspension period will be within 3-6 months. After the suspension period, the violators are allowed to take the licenses after a written declaration.
