At a time when the government numbers say Corona is on a decline, Osmania University women's hostel students are being haunted by the virus. A PG biotechnology student staying at the OU Women’s Hostel was recently sent home by authorities after getting tested positive for COVID-19. Three other students who were staying with her in the same room were put in isolation.
Hostels in OU opened just two months ago. Gradually more and more students are flocking to hostels. Students arrived in full at three women’s hostels in OU ten days ago. A student studying MCE Biotechnology at the Main Women Hostel in OU has been suffering from a high fever for 4 days. On Wednesday she got a corona test and got positive.
Authorities sent her home. The three students who were staying in the same room with her were placed in isolation as part of precaution. Student unions, on the other hand, are blaming negligence on the part of the authorities for spreading the virus in the women's hostel. They say that Corona's safety precautions are not followed in the hostels.
They say even basics like sanitizer dispensing and temperature checks are not done. Students say there are not enough rooms and as a result, more people are staying together increasing the risk. Student unions are demanding that the authorities immediately take up corona safety precautions and also conduct RT-PCR tests for all students in the hostel.
