Hyderabad, Cyberabad traffic police have given life to a heart through the green channel. Another man was given a new lease of life as they saw a heart of a brain-dead man reach the recipient in record time. The heart traveled 11 kilometers in just nine minutes.
Nakirekanti Shekhar (31) of Nadimpalli village, Achanpeta Mandal, Mahabubnagar district, is working as a small employee in a private company. He was on his way home from work on the 13th of this month when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle. Shekhar, who was critically injured, was rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to NIMS Hospital in Panjagutta for better treatment.
The doctors treating him confirmed that he was brain dead on the night of the 17th of this month. Upon learning of the matter, the Jeevanandan representatives explained to the family members the importance of organ donation and they agreed. A 45-year-old man from the city is being treated at the AIG Hospital in Gachibowli for heart disease.
Doctors said a heart transplant was the only way out as the disease progressed. He applied for Jeevandhan in September this year. Shekar's matched the recipient and the arrangements were made for the transplant. The matter was reported to the police and the Hyderabad and Cyberabad traffic commissionerates made the necessary arrangement.
A green channel has been set up to prevent any disturbance from Jubilee Hills 45 to the AIG hospital in Gachibowli via the Cable Bridge. With this, in just 9 minutes, 11 kilometers were covered. The heart was transported and was successfully transplanted to the recipient.
