Doubts are being raised over the implementation of the free water scheme as the Water Board keeps changing rules from time to time. Still, 3.5 lakh connections have not been seeded with Aadhar. The water board seems like is filtering the remaining 6.8 lakh seeded connections in the name of new rules. In the name of occupancy, PTIN, no construction according to plan, etc, so far 70,000 houses have been out of the scheme.
Authorities found that more than half of the black connections had no meters. 1.97 lakh connections in slum areas are benefiting from the scheme even without Aadhaar seeding. Of the remaining 7.87 lakh connections, only 2.20 lakh have meters. Water meter, Aadhar Seeding, and CAN number were made mandatory. And now these new rules of PTIN, occupancy, and construction according to the approved plan are being imposed.
Under these new rules, 70,000 connections were disqualified. Meanwhile, officials initially said seeding the Aadhaar details of someone in the apartment would suffice for the scheme. Later, Aadhar seeding is made mandatory for all flat owners. Even if one flat owner did not do Aadhar seeding, everyone should pay their bills. So, many apartments are deprived of this scheme benefits. As a result, more than 14 lakh apartments could not enroll more than one and a half lakh connections.
